Day70: Mexico City “Dream”
I think an architect’s own house is the most interesting kind of architecture.
Architects who work on large-scale projects sometimes build small houses in the forest. Others, known for concrete buildings, choose to build houses made of wood. Whatever the case, an architect’s own house expresses their philosophy most strongly.
Today, one of my dreams came true. Casa Luis Barragán is both his home and his atelier. I could feel his philosophy of life there, and I gained a great deal of inspiration from the house. Now, I am heading toward the biggest dream of my life: building my own house.
建築家自身の住まいほど、興味深い建築はないと思う。大規模なプロジェクトを数多く手がける建築家が、森の中に小さな家を建てることもある。コンクリート建築で知られる建築家が、木の家を選ぶこともある。どんな形であれ、建築家の自邸には、その人の哲学がもっとも強く表れる。
今日、ひとつの夢が叶った。カサ・ルイス・バラガンは、彼自身の住まいであり、アトリエでもある。そこで彼の生き方や思想を感じ、多くのインスピレーションを感じられた。いま私は、人生でいちばん大きな夢――自分の家を建てることへと向かっている。
